Everyone has an opinion, but we often forget that it is best kept to ourselves.
A 76-year-old style influencer recently uploaded a photo of herself wearing a sleeveless midi dress, and while the post received a lot of feedback, it wasn’t all favorable.
“It’s not the first time something like this has happened, but this one surprised me,” Candace Cima told TODAY. “People have such outdated notions about age-appropriate fashion, and that needs to change.”
Many people praised the pro-aging influencer’s approach, but many others criticized it in the comments.
“This dress does nothing for you from the side or back. Below the waist, form fitting is not your friend. “Celebrate everything else about your body!” one Facebook user remarked.
“Not at all flattering. I’d never wear it alone. “I’m too old to be showing all that skin,” another person opined.
“It’s perfectly appropriate to have wrinkled skin at 76, and I’m not ashamed of it,” she remarked. “Sometimes I want to respond, ‘Should I cover my face too, because I have wrinkles there?’”
Cima launched her fashion blog in 2019 after recognizing a need in the market for older ladies.
“I saw an opportunity to discuss how to dress as you age.” Women have been conditioned to believe that they must cover up like their moms and grandmothers did.”
“We need to change our perspective on age.” In a contemporary environment, we don’t need to hold on to these ancient notions.”
Despite the numerous insults, Cima ignored them and instead provided guidance to some of her newer and younger followers.
“Aging is wonderful. Everything you’ve known your entire life is suddenly available to you. You are currently the wisest person you will ever be. Accept it and be proud of it.”
A 76-year-old grandmother modeled a sleeveless dress on social media and was ripped apart for showing off her arms. I don’t care what anyone else has to say, I think she’s gorgeous!
