It looks as though the sun has finally set on the marriage of former celebrity power couple Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa.
Following months of heartbreaking speculation – and despite fans hoping that the duo would be able to repair the once-passionate romance – reports have emerged stating that The Cosby Star Bonet, 56, has officially filed for divorce from her Aquaman husband, 44.
“We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times…” the pair wrote on Instagram at the time. “A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring.
“We share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived.”
Bonet – who previously welcomed daughter Zoë Kravitz with rock singer Lenny Kravitz – and Momoa tied the knot back in 2007, two years after first meeting in 2005.
They were introduced by friends at a jazz club at the time, with Momoa later telling viewers of The Late Late Show with James Corden of the sweet moment they fell in love.
“We just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” he gushed. “I actually had dreaded my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks.
“I literally turned around and I see her and she goes, ‘I’m Lisa.’ I turned around to my friend and I [pretended to scream]. I had f***ing fireworks going off inside, man.
“I convinced her to take me home, because I was living in a hotel,” he said, revealing they sat down in New York City’s Cafe 101 beforehand.
“We sat down, she ordered a Guinness, and that was it. I beyond love Guinness. We had Guinness and grits, and the rest is history.”
It was later revealed that they wed in October 2017.
Game of Thrones star Momoa – famed for playing Dothraki frontman Khal Drogo in the HBO hit – continued in his Instagram statement back in 2022: “We free each other to be who we are learning to become. Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life our children. Teaching our children what’s possible. Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail.”
And according to court documents obtained by People, Bonet’s divorce papers are just as amicable as their social media statement, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the split.
She reportedly lists their date of separation as October 7, 2020.
When it comes to custody of their two children, the paperwork states that Bonet is seeking joint custody with Momoa, and neither are asking for any spousal support.
