Whether you’re a hard-faced sceptic or a paranormal believer, there’s always something wonderfully curious about claims surrounding alleged ‘other-worldly’ beings.
Last month, scientists working in the Canadian seas were left speechless after discovering an active ancient volcano covered in a mystery animal’s giant eggs.
And hikers in Brazil recently set tongues wagging after capturing bizarre footage of ‘10ft tall aliens’ watching them from over a hilltop.
There’s no denying it – there’s something oddly satisfying about the unexplainable.
That being said, viewers of a brand new ‘live’ photograph – which has gone viral on social media this week – have been left startled after noticing something rather sinister blending into the background.
Runner Kay Borleis was taking part in the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team’s Trail 100-Mile Endurance Run around the area of Oahu back in 2019, which consists of running a 20-mile loop through the Honolulu Mauka trails five times.
Having been a devoted runner since her early teens, Borleis was used to keeping her head down during competitive races.
It was for that reason that she unknowingly wandered into the territory of an alleged ‘Nightmarcher’, with her friend capturing the heart-stopping moment on camera.
Speaking of this part of the trial, Borleis recalled it being particularly brutal because of numerous obstacles she was forced to face, including thick tree roots and water-crossings.
It was while she was attempting to make her way through these patches of turf that, for the first time in her running journey – she injured her foot.
The pain was so bad that Borleis was forced to pull out of the race and retreat to her accommodation, where her friends and family were waiting to greet her.
She later asked her friend Cassie – who had been accompanying her throughout the race as a pacer – to send her the content she’d captured, so that she could show her loved ones.
While scrolling through the photos, however, Borleis blood ran cold and she was left with ‘goosebumps’ after noticing a strange, cloaked figure emerging in the background of one particular live pic.
“To this day, we still don’t know what it was,” she later wrote in a blog post about the shadowed entity.
“The reason why no one was on that part of trail is because all runners had to run in a clockwise direction,” she explained in the blog.
“And tourists weren’t out that early. We didn’t see anyone for hours while running together. So, we were – and still are – positive there was no one there.”
After doing some digging, she discovered a legend about a group of ghosts inhabiting Hawaii called Nightmarchers.
These spirits ‘supposedly traveled at night to protect people so sacred that the common man was never allowed to look at them’, according to Honolulu Magazine.
The publication added that: “Breaking that rule meant death.”
Apparently, if a human crosses paths with one of these mystery beings, they should strip naked and lie face down to avoid looking at them, though luckily Borleis didn’t notice it until after she’d returned home.
The original blog post has since been deleted.
Anyone else got chills?
