Why We Shouldn’t Wear the Same Clothes for 2 Days in a Row

“I only wore that T-shirt once, I can definitely re-wear it again!” Most of us are guilty of giving our clothes a sniff test and wearing them day after day. But even if your clothes smell fine, they are covered in sweat and bacteria, and if you don’t change them on a daily basis, it may lead to some unpleasant consequences.

We at Bright Side decided to find out what happens if you re-wear your seemingly fresh clothes for a few days in a row.

1. It may cause body acne.

Doing laundry every day seems exhausting, but if you’ve been struggling with pimples on your back or chest, you might want to consider changing your clothes daily. Dirty clothes collect sweat and bacteria that are transferred into any hair-bearing area on your body, causing clogged pores. Sweat combined with dead skin cells can cause irritation and lead to acne on pretty much any part of your body, including your back, thighs, and even buttocks.

2. It might lead to unpleasant body odor.

If you want to push your laundry day off for as long as possible, we totally get it. But your clothes are coming into contact with less-than-fresh scents, such as armpit sweat. Germs and bacteria love sweat, and the combination of the 2 leads to unpleasant body odor.

3. You might be exposing yourself to other people’s germs.

It’s one thing to be exposed to your own body oils and bacteria all day, but it’s a totally different thing to be enveloped in other people’s bacteria. We all have bacteria on our skin, and most germs that end up on our clothes come from our own bodies. But it’s also possible to pick up germs on your clothes from other people, and although they are often harmless, some of them can cause infection, especially if you have skin problems.

4. It may give you a rash.

If you’ve ever noticed an itchy rash on your skin, this may give you the motivation to change your clothes more often. Clothing is in close contact with your skin, and if dirty clothes are rubbing against it, the oils and bacteria trapped in the fabric may cause skin irritation. Although any kind of fiber may irritate your skin, clothes made with synthetics feel more coarse on the skin because they don’t breathe as well as natural fibers.

How often do you change your clothes? What’s the longest you’ve gone without washing your clothes?
