One woman has issued an urgent warning to fellow drivers about what they wear when behind the wheel after tragically losing her eye in a minor car accident.

Hannah Oliver, who hails from the US, has used her story to shed some awareness on how one seemingly innocent fashion choice can leave you with permanent, life-altering injuries.

The 29-year-old business owner revealed it was something people ‘do all the time’ while driving without having a clue of the potential dangers attached to donning the common accessory.

Now, we should all know about the dangers of wearing a claw clip when in the car by now, but did you know sunglasses also pose a pretty big danger too?

Well, this was exactly the case for Hannah who, back in August 2021, had been in her car and was travelling at just 25mph when she ended up in a collision with another motorist.

While it was only a ‘minor car accident’, the accident had major some pretty major consequences for her.

The Atlanta resident explained that another driver had pulled out in front of her and slammed on his brakes, but she ‘did not react fast enough’ and ended up smashing into the back of him.

Hannah opened up about the ordeal on TikTok, telling viewers: “When that happened, my airbag came out. It hit my precious designer sunglasses and they shattered into a million pieces.”

The next thing she could remember was looking in her rearview mirror only to discover one of her eyes had been ‘shredded’ and ‘looked like it had gone through the garbage disposal’.

“My eye was gone, it deflated on impact. My optic nerve was severed and my retina was detached. All of the glass had shredded my eye into pieces,” she explained.

Hannah went on to have six surgeries to reconstruct her eye and now wears a prosthetic, which she got back September 2022.

Following the ordeal that ‘changed her whole life’, Hannah has since been inspired to start up her own company called Blue Eye, which sells a line of shatter-resistant sunglasses in the hopes of saving someone else from going through the same thing she did.

Using her platform to share information on the potential risks of shattering shades, Hannah continued: “I think its crazy that people don’t know your sunglasses can do this. Over 75% of them are made with either plastic, nylon or glass lenses, which will shatter right on impact.

“What’s even more nuts, is the fact that these sunglasses manufacturers could produce shatter resistant lenses for literally pennies but they chose not to. Now that I only have one eye, I have to protect what I have left.

“It literally took me to six surgeries to get to this and now I’m partially blind and I’ve got to live with this for the rest of my life, all because of some designer sunglasses that I thought were cute on my face, that I thought was going to protect me, but they didn’t.”

Hannah donates a percentage of each purchase to eye research charities to help others who have lost their eyesight.

People were clearly touched by Hannah’s experience and her admirable decision to use her story to inform others, praising her resilience in the comments.

One TikTok user said: “No claw clips, no sunglasses – got it!”

“My Ray-Ban’s exploded like that on a hard floor,” shared a second. “I’ve always had cheap plastic ones before, it was a wake up call for sure.”

A third chimed in: “Oh my goodness. I live in my sunglasses and never knew or thought of this! I’ll be checking your range out ASAP.”

“Terrified to wear my glasses now,” admitted a fourth while a final TikTok user penned: “Crazy because you think you’re protecting your eyes with them too.”

One woman has issued an urgent warning to ‘stay safe whilst swimming’ after being hospitalised on holiday.

Zoe Cahill, who hails from Queensland in Australia, has opened up about her holiday from hell, after she endured a pretty horrifying attack that left her hospitalised for more than a month.

The 23-year-old opened up about the ordeal, which took place while she was swimming near the shore of Zen Beach on the island of Ko Pha Ngan, while holidaying in Thailand back in October.

The Aussie was on her first-ever solo trip to South-east Asia, where she had spent her time teaching yoga and travelling between Bali and Thailand.

Zoe revealed she had been swimming around Ko Pha Ngan for a few months without any problems. However, on that fateful day, she was in the water about 50 metres from the shore when ‘all of a sudden’ her body felt like it was ‘vibrating’.

Recalling the terrifying incident, Zoe told 9news.com.au: “I thought I saw what looked like little bits of plastic in the ocean and within seconds this jellyfish stung me.

“It literally felt like electricity had shot through my body.”

She continued: “The adrenaline kicked in, although my memory is still patchy, I actually managed to get myself back to shore.”

According to bystanders, Zoe thankfully managed to make her way back to shore before she collapsed.

Around 15 people rushed to her aid while a nurse performed CPR, with Zoe adding: “I was crying I was screaming, I was just so confused as to what was happening.”

She was later rushed to the local hospital in Ko Pha Ngan where a friend was luckily able to meet her.

After some tests, the globe-trotter was told by doctors that she would need to be transported by emergency speed boat to the nearby island of Ko Samui.

A doctor told her friend: “She needs an antihistamine as her white blood cells are increasing rapidly and we don’t have the resources to treat her.”

The following day, Zoe was visited by a marine toxin specialist from Bangkok and went on to remain in hospital for over a month, while being unable to walk properly for two weeks due to her extensive stings.

She has since documented her recovery on Instagram, showing viewers her scars from the incident.

“I’m scarred all over my body, everywhere you look there’s a mark,” she said. “But I’m grateful to be here today.”

Zoe has since returned home and is now working towards raising awareness about the dangers of jellyfish attacks.

Warning: Contains content some readers may find upsetting

A mum was plunged into her worst nightmare earlier this year when her beautiful baby girl was rushed to hospital after squeezing a laundry pod into her eyes.

Kelly Spampinato never expected her infant daughter Millie to get her hands on the dangerous pod, being that they were usually locked away in a kitchen cupboard and way out of reach.

It was only after her six-year-old son and Millie’s big brother opened the cupboard for another reason that the tot was able to reach them.

Whilst doing the hoovering in a separate room, Kelly overheard a concerning noise coming from the kitchen, before one-year-old Millie let out an agonising scream.

Immediately upon laying eyes upon her little girl, the Bristolean mother-of-two realised what was wrong.

“I was vacuuming in the living room when I heard her screams,” she later told the BBC. “She must have squeezed a pod because her face was covered with it.

“I was heartbroken. I felt like the worst mum in the world and I honestly thought she would be blind.”

Kelly attempted to splash cold water onto her daughter’s face, but the tot couldn’t settle down.

“I rang 111 and they advised us to take her to Southmead [Hospital] A&E,” she explained.

At the medical unit, doctors continually tried to swill water around Millie’s eyes to remove the harmful chemicals, but the toddler wasn’t able to open them.

In fact, she remained in this harrowing state for several days, with Kelly claiming her other children were worried she’d never be able to open her eyes again.

“I didn’t know what to say,” the terrified mother admitted. “I never imagined this could happen.”

A few days later, however, Kelly’s prayers were granted as her little girl began to open her eyes.

And she was told by a consultant that Millie would thankfully make a full recovery, despite having suffered third-degree burns.

“When she opened her eye and put her arms out to me, we were all crying and and it was lovely,” she said.

Kelly is now hoping that other parents will learn from her heart-stopping incident and be more mindful about where they store their alkaline-filled laundry pods.

“I wouldn’t want this to happen to any other family, it’s just been horrendous for us all,” she disclosed.

According to medical professionals, if a child gets their hands on these potentially fatal cleaning products and it goes in their eyes, parents should rinse the eye with cool water for at least 20 minutes.

They should also seek immediate medical attention.

Similarly, if a youngster accidentally consumes the chemicals, mums and dads should get in touch with the emergency services immediately, being that inhalation can trigger both choking and breathing difficulties.

A TikToker has spoken out about how ‘lucky’ she is after her claw clip got lodged in the back of her head in a car accident.

Paisley Nicole was involved in a car accident on Saturday 4 March which saw the vehicle she was in ‘roll over’. Thankfully, Paisley’s injuries weren’t critical.

The main suspect Paisley thinks is behind her head injury? Take a look at the claw clip she was wearing on the back of her head.

The TikToker has since spoken out to ‘spread awareness to girls that drive around with claw clips’.

Paisley explains she was driving in her friend’s boyfriends side-by-side car when she had to ‘go pee’.

The TikToker continues: “So she was taking me to go and she turned really hard. And we were going just under 20 miles an hour and we rolled.

“And the back of my head hit a metal bar which lodged the claw clip in teh back of my head.

“My boyfriend was there thankfully and my cousin and they literally ripped the roof off of the side-by-side to get me out. And I called my mum and she called the ER letting them know we were on the way.”

Once at the hospital, Paisley underwent a CT scan and X-rays of her head and chest ‘to make sure [she] didn’t have any brain damage’.

The TikToker notes: “I was very lucky I did not.”

Paisley received five staples in the back of her head to repair the damage caused by the accident.

“I do not remember anything from the accident. Everything I’ve just said I’ve just been told from it,” she adds.

People have since flocked to Paisley’s TikTok in appreciation of her warning.

One wrote: “**gently removes claw clip from hair**”

“Thank you for raising awareness and I’m glad you’re ok!” another said.

A third weighed in with their own experience: “My daughter left her doll claw clip on floor I stepped in it the clip went all the way up my foot I had to go.to ER to get out it wouldn’t budge.”

However, another user theorised: “So the claw clip might of saved your life from taking the primary impact. claw was secondary impact.”

Paisley notes she’s received ‘many’ comments from other people who have gone through similar experiences with claw clips, some allegedly even having died after ending up with ‘brain damage’ from their accident.

Whatever people’s responses to the claw clip incident, Paisley ultimately resolves she was ‘very lucky’ and the whole accident could have ‘been very much worse’.

Now, many of us have opted for a reusable water bottle to help keep us hydrated while also being a little kinder to the planet.

However, it seems that while they’re great for the environment, they may not be all that great for your health if you’re not keeping on top of cleaning it.

One woman clearly learnt this the hard way and has since issued an urgent warning about reusable water bottles after she was sent to A&E four times after drinking from hers.

After finding herself consistently ill since August, 19-year-old student Kae, finally wondered whether her water bottle may be the culprit.

She took it apart only to make the horrifying discovery that the silicone mouthpiece was completely caked in mould.

Kae, who hails from Georgia, took to TikTok to open up about the ordeal and to warn others to clean their water bottle thoroughly to avoid mould poisoning.

“This is a PSA to anyone who owns an Owala,” she began her video, which was captioned: “PSA to fellow Owala girlies to take out the silicone piece.”

She revealed: “I had a cold that was minor… but didn’t go away. I went to urgent care – Bronchitis.

“Of course they give me an inhaler and some pills and I break out in hives as a result of the pills. Great, can’t take those anymore. The Bronchitis takes longer than it should to go away.

“That gets better after three weeks but then – sinus infection. I’m in pain. I go back to urgent care and get antibiotics.”

The antibiotics from her second trip to A&E worked and for about a week or so and Kae was started to feel better – but this clearly didn’t last long.

“I get sick again,” she continued. “It’s another cold that lasts two weeks, then the most painful, sore throat of my life. I go to urgent care again, this is the fourth time this semester and the doctor takes a look at my throat and goes ‘Oh my goodness, it’s a really angry throat, are you in pain?’

“He puts me on antibiotics again.”

It was during this round of antibiotics that the teen decided to clean her water bottle.

She went on: “This is where it goes downhill. I’m cleaning it, doing all the normal things. I know I don’t clean it as much as I should, no one does. I know it’s full of bacteria.

“I get to the lid and get all in there. I’m not sure how to properly clean it… so I google how to clean [the lid]. Everyone says remove it and boil it.”

After removing the silicone mouthpiece, Kae found it was ‘covered in mould’, recalling: “I had to take a toothpick and get it out. Mould, mould, mould.

“It embedded itself into the silicone and was disgusting. I immediately order replacements on Amazon and this is a new one and it’s not mouldy.”

Kae didn’t realise the mouthpiece was detachable, saying she was ‘horrified’ by the whole situation.

“Once I cleaned it, got better. Haven’t been sick since,” she assured viewers. “Isn’t that so funny? I had mould poisoning from my water bottle.”

She concluded in the now-privated video: “This is a PSA to anyone who owns a water bottle and has been sick for a while. Check it, clean it and boil it to hell.”

A spokesperson for Owala told DailyMail.com: “One of the standout features of Owala bottles and tumblers is that they are designed to be easy to clean.

“The spout gasket, straw, and other parts are easily removable for thorough cleaning.”
