Jim Carrey is stepping out of retirement to star in a new role – and audiences are very excited indeed.

Yep, it’s official, Carrey will reprise one of his best-loved film roles at the end of this year.

Carrey has been one of the most successful actors in Hollywood for the best part of 40 years.

From Ace Ventura: Pet Detective to Dumb and DumberThe Mask and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Carrey was a regular face in 90s cinema.

And despite announcing his retirement last fall, Carrey *did* say he would return for some specific projects.

In an interview with Kit Kuvir for Access Hollywood, Carrey explained that he was planning on retiring.

During the chat, Kuvir had told the actor that singer Dolly Parton wanted him to play her musical partner in a biopic.

To which Carrey said: “That’s great. But I’m retiring.

“I’m saying this quite seriously. Unless, of course, the angels suddenly bring me some script written in golden ink, and I realize that it is very important for people to see it, then maybe I will come back.”

And come back he has, with Variety confirming that Carrey will be reprising his role as Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Now, *spoilers ahead* the second movie ended with Robotnik actually falling from a gigantic robot, with audiences left wondering if he had survived the fall.

In a scene after the credits, audiences learn that Dr Robotnik’s body had not been found, which was one clue that he would be returning.

It’ll be the third instalment in the franchise, joining Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – which collectively made a whopping $870.8 million at the box office.

Earlier today (February 2), filmmakers teased Carrey’s return after releasing a clip of the new movie.

In it, audiences can hear Robotnik’s unmistakeable cackle.

The clip was captioned: “You all thought I was gone, but I’ve just been underground. What you’ve seen from me is only a #shadow of things to come.”

And people are loving the news, with one writing on X (formerly Twitter): “The fact he’s known to rarely do sequels on top just shows how much he loves playing the character.”

While another said: “Making children (and adults) laugh and be happy is a great reason to continue your career. I hope he feels the gratitude we all have for what he brings to us.”

And a third added: “I loved Carrey’s role as Robotnik. I’m so glad he’s doing the third movie.”

The movie is set for release on December 20, 2024.

Twenty-three years after starring in How The Grinch Stole Christmas, it has been reported that Jim Carrey is set to reprise the bright-green title role for the upcoming sequel.

The Ron Howard-directed movie will be having its 23rd Christmas this year, after first being released all the way back in 2000.

And though the film has never yet seen a sequel, Giant Freakin Robot has now reported that a follow-up to the much-loved festive movie was imminent and that fan-favourite Carrey would be returning to the role.

The publication wrote: “Jim Carrey is returning to Universal Pictures for The Grinch 2, once again playing Dr. Seuss’s most famous and ill-tempered creation.”

Though the quick-wit Dr Seuss movie – which sees the bright green ‘gentle giant’ tormenting the residents of Whoville – has kept both parents and children feeling the Christmas spirit over the last two decades, it may be that not everyone is thrilled about the movie returning for a second part.

In fact, 61-year-old actor Carrey has spoken several times about the emotional and physical impact of getting into the iconic character for filming everyday.

Catching up with Irish talk-show presenter Graham Norton back in 2014, the Canadian comedian revealed it took eight hours for the heavy make-up and prosthetics to be applied to his face and body.

“When I did The Grinch, literally, the make-up was like being buried alive everyday,” he admitted. “The first day was eight-and-a-half hours.

“And I went back to my trailer and put my leg through the wall and I told Ron Howard I couldn’t do the movie.

“Then [movie producer] Brian Grazer came in being the fix-it man, and came up with a brilliant idea which was to hire a gentleman who is trained to teach CIA operatives how to endure torture.”

He then teased: “So, that’s how I got through The Grinch. It was quite hilarious.”

Carrey then went on to disclose some of the ways he was able to calm himself down.

“If you’re freaking out and you start to spiral downward, turn the television on, change a pattern, have someone you know come up and smack you in the head, punch yourself in the leg, or smoke as much as you possibly can.”

Describing his “horrifying” costume as consisting of “green yack hair”, which he says turned inwards, Carrey added that the only thing that brought him comfort was that the movie was “for the kids”.

“I did the make-up 100 times,” he further shocked viewers.

So, we can imagine the CIA may once again be needed if Carrey is to sit back down to transform into the Grinch!

Actor Jim Carrey is leaving LA after nearly 30 years in the same Bentwood home.

Having emigrated from Canada in the eighties, Carrey eventually landed his big break in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and bought the palatial pad soon just before the film’s release.

Referencing the iconic song by David Bowie, the Bruce Almighty star said that he was ready for ‘Cha cha cha cha…Changes!’.

Jim Carrey had the perfect reaction straight after Cameron Diaz was forcefully kissed at MTV awards
People have spoken out in widespread praise for Jim Carrey after the actor leapt to the MTV Awards stage in Cameron Diaz’s defence.

However, many fans have been wondering why Carrey would ever leave the stunning setting, which is worth a reported $28.9 million (£23.7m).

Bought by the Batman Forever actor for just over $3 million (£2.46m) in 1994, the property has five bedrooms, nine bathrooms and spans over two acres.

In fact, the master bedroom could essentially be used as a flat, as it has its own bathroom, fireplace and balcony to survey everything you own.

The kitchen has a huge space for cooking as well as a separate dining and breakfast room, which opens onto the garden.

The rest of the house is equally impressive, as there’s even a movie theatre where the actor keeps costumes from some of his best-loved roles – such as the Santa suit from The Grinch.

The property also has multiple living rooms, a gym and an office – so working from home shouldn’t be an issue as long as you don’t get too distracted!

For those keen on getting outdoors, the ranch also has a tennis court, a waterfall pool and a sauna within the extensive gardens.

Whilst most of us would never want to leave, Carrey has been slowly moving away from California in recent years.

He sold another property in Malibu back in 2013 and has yet to confirm whether he will remain in the county.

In a statement to The Post about the move, he added: “For three decades it’s been a sanctuary for me but I don’t spend a lot of time there now and I want someone else to enjoy it like I have.”

He also gave a statement to the Wall Street Journal, which was the first to report the move.

Calling it a place of ‘enchantment and inspiration’, the 61-year-old said that he’d spent ‘30 very creative and prosperous years’ at his former home.

In a suitably silly follow-up, the comedian spoke about his time at the property and said: “Every night the owls sang me lullabies and every morning I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine.”

Barbie director Greta Gerwig asked director of Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show for advice on creating Barbieland

If you’ve not seen the Barbie movie yet, where have you been?

Since its release last month, the movie has received huge praise from fans all over the globe, having enjoyed one of the biggest marketing budgets for a film in recent years ($125 million to $150 million). Brands like Heinz, Airbnb and Crocs all jumped on the pink bandwagon to promote it.

The storyline follows Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) as they leave ‘Barbieland’ to visit the real world and come face to face with the struggles of day-to-day living. However, one of the biggest areas for which the film has received praise is the aesthetically pleasing design of Barbieland. Director Greta Gerwig says she got her inspiration for the layout from consulting Peter Weir, director of Jim Carrey favourite The Truman Show.

She told AP News that she rang the director for advice on how best to bring Barbieland to life, given his work creating the artificial town for the 1998 hit movie. She told the publication: “He was so generous getting on the phone with me. I had this idea of making Barbieland basically an interior soundstage world. That was the concept.

“But as big as soundstages are, they’re not the world. They’re going to be small. You can only hang the lights so high.

“There’s obviously parts of his movie that are done on a stage, but then there are other parts of it that can’t possibly be on a stage because it’s too big, but it feels like it’s on a stage, you know?”

Weir explained how the film was shot using outdoor locations but with the help of stage lighting to create the illusion of a well-lit, almost fake-looking world.

Greta recently told Rolling Stone that some of the visitors on set had made Barbie actress Margot Robbie feel ‘self conscious’ during the filming as they interacted more with Ryan Gosling who played Ken than they did with her. She described the scene on Venice Beach, where the pair were rollerblading through the strip.

“How Barbie operates in Barbieland is she’s entirely continuous with her environment,” Gerwig said.

“Even the houses have no walls, because you never need to hide because there’s nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed of. And suddenly finding yourself in the real world and wishing you could hide, that’s the essence of being human.

“But when we were actually shooting on Venice Beach, with Margot and Ryan in neon rollerblading outfits, it was fascinating because it was actually happening in front of us.”

Fans have been left cringing after witnessing resurfaced footage of Cameron Diaz at the 1995 MTV Movie Awards.

While one would think they were reacting to the questionable outfits, the moment was much more shocking as Cameron Diaz was forced to kiss another performer at the event.

It was as the Mask actor presented the award for ‘Best Kiss’ award that year. Take a look:

Cameron Diaz forcefully kissed at the 1995 MTV Movie Awards

Having made it to the main stage, Diaz was appearing alongside musician Chris Isaak at the MTV Movie Awards.

With True LiesBefore SunriseNatural Born KillersSpeed and Dumb and Dumber all up for the award, Isaak tried to make his own last-minute entry but the Charlie’s Angels actor wasn’t impressed.

After introducing the category, the signer tried to put his arm around Diaz and then when in for a kiss.

Clearly not wanting to continue, the A-Lister tried to continue with her line which is when Issak tried to go in again.

In fact, he can even be heard saying ‘come here, baby’ despite Cameron’s arm being in the way as he attempts this and holds one of her wrists.

Ever the professional, Diaz continues trying to announce the awards.

Whilst everyone else had clearly gotten the message, Issak kept attempting to hit on Diaz as she explained that the big screen kisses happened on the ‘on the director’s say so’.

She still carries on, virtually shouting as she leans away from the creepy musician.

He then stands in front of her, with the uncomfortable actor nervously giggling as he yet again attempts to grab and kiss her.

Shockingly, the audience can be heard to cheer as he tells Diaz ‘I knew you’d come around’, leaving her in utter shock. (Gross!)

Thankfully, times have moved on and fans have since heavily criticised Isaak’s behaviour.

One fan said that the footage ‘makes my blood boil’, while another said they were shocked that ‘people clapped and laughed’ during the moment.

Some however did wonder whether the kiss must have been rehearsed, saying it must have been ‘part of the act’.

Others agreed saying that they hoped so too, given that it was ‘too much’ if it was real.

Diaz also got her own back thanks to her Mask co-star, Jim Carrey.

Rather than just telling off the inappropriate musician, he opted to give Issak a taste of his own medicine literally by embracing him as he picked up the Best Kiss Award during the event.

Whilst it’s unclear whether they actually kissed or not, it seems like the perfect revenge.
