Woman sent a list of rules to her wedding guests—soon many of them began cancelling

In a story that’s as surprising as it is controversial, a bride-to-be’s quest for the perfect wedding day has sparked quite a debate. This story unfolds on Reddit’s ‘AITAH’ (Am I The A*****e) subreddit, a place where people seek judgment on their actions from the online community.

The bride, eager to ensure her wedding day was flawless, shared a list of strict rules with her guests. She emphasized that she and her fiancé agreed to these guidelines, pre-empting any assumptions about her being a ‘bridezilla.’

One of the key rules was an ‘unplugged ceremony’—no phones were allowed, not just during the ceremony but also during dinner, unless in case of a ‘huge’ emergency. This rule, in particular, didn’t sit well with many guests, especially those with children at home. The bride’s stance was firm: no exceptions, as she didn’t consider checking on kids an emergency.

The couple’s insistence on a strict dress code further complicated things. Guests were instructed to wear only black, with women in dresses and men in tuxedos. This rule was inflexible, even for those with personal reasons for avoiding such attire, like the bride’s aunt who associated black with mourning and her future sister-in-law who felt more comfortable in pants due to body dysmorphia.

Adding to the controversy, the couple had told their bridesmaids to maintain their current weight, a demand that understandably could be seen as insensitive.

The ripple effect of these rules was immediate. The bride’s mother expressed her frustration, her bridesmaids considered dropping out, and guests started canceling their attendance. Even the planned flower girl, the maid of honor’s daughter, was now out of the picture, as the bride wanted her to stay at a hotel with a babysitter, which her mother did not agree to.

When the bride sought opinions on Reddit, the response was overwhelming. Many users sided against her, pointing out that while it’s the couple’s right to have the wedding they desire, guests also have the freedom to decline participation if they find the demands unreasonable.

This story certainly raises questions about the balance between a couple’s vision for their wedding and the comfort and preferences of their guests. What’s your take on this situation? Do you think the couple’s demands were reasonable, or did they cross a line? Share your thoughts in the comments!
