Amber Heard thanks Aquaman fans for ‘overwhelming support’ despite shockingly small amount of time in new film

Amber Heard has spoken out for the first time since Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s release.

The highly anticipated sequel hit cinemas on December 22 last year, and has so far raked in $279.5 million at the box office.

Jason Momoa reprised his role of Aquaman for the film, while Patrick Wilson joined the cast as Orm – Aquaman’s estranged brother.

Heard also reprised her role of Mera, but had just 20 minutes of screen time in the two hour-long movie.

She’s is mostly seen in the first and last parts of the film, and only has a total of 11 brief speaking parts.

Despite her extremely pared down role, Heard has taken to social media for the first time in months to thank fans for their support.

Sharing a selfie on set while wearing her bright red Mera wig, the 37-year-old wrote: “After all this time, Aquaman 2 made its splash (sorry, it’s too easy).

“Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera’s AQ return. Thank you so much.”

She shared the post on Thursday (January 4) and has since turned the comments off.

Heard’s lack of screen time in the new film comes after she alleged that those behind Aquaman 2 didn’t want her in it.

She made the allegations during her high-profile lawsuit against ex, Johnny Depp.

Heard said at the time: “I was given a script. And then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another

In the fallout of her divorce from ex Depp, Heard has relocated to Spain with her young daughter.

“She’s bilingual in Spanish and is happy there, raising her daughter away from all the noise,” a source close to Heard told Daily Mail last year.

“I don’t think she is in any hurry to return to work or to Hollywood, but she will probably come back when the time is right, for the right project.”

As well as Aquaman 2, Heard’s film In The Fire was released in October.

The movie was filmed in 2022, and the actor hasn’t been tied to any projects since.

The amount of screen time Amber Heard gets in Aquaman 2 has been revealed.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits cinemas today (December 22) and, while Heard played a pivotal role in the first film, the same can’t be said for its sequel.

In her dramatic defamation lawsuit against ex Johnny Depp last year, Heard alleged that filmmakers didn’t want her in Aquaman 2.

“I had to fight to – I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film,” she said of her role of Mera.

Heard then went on to claim that she has a ‘very pared down role’ for the film, and it appears as though she was right.

According to Business Insider, Heard gets a measly 20 minutes in the movie, just 16 percent of the 2 hour-long film.

The publication states that Heard is mostly seen in the first and last parts of the film, and only has a total of 11 brief speaking parts.

Ouch.

Her apparent lack of screen time comes after Heard claims that the script was changed so that she’d had less involvement in Aquaman 2.

She said in her suit against Depp: “I was given a script. And then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another.

“They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”

But the Aquaman 2 director, James Wan, dismissed her allegations and said that the second film was always meant to me more focused on Aquaman and his villainous half-brother, Orm (Patrick Wilson).

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go,” Wan said when he was asked about Heard’s claims.

“The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm.

“So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”

So far, Aquaman 2 has received mixed reviews and boasts a less-than-impressive 36 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomoatmeter.

However, it has a more optimistic 78 percent audience score, proving that – while it might not have been a hit with critics – DC fans are enjoying it.

The first film has 66 percent on the Tomatometer and a 72 percent audience score.
