This Girl Became a Popular Singer, Underwent a Kidney Transplant & Made It to the Guinness World Records More than Once

  • The little girl in the cover image grew up to become a famous musician and actress.
  • At one point in her life, she underwent a kidney transplant and opened up about her health.
  • The star has also made it to the Guinness World Records more than once.

The little girl in the cover photo is revered as a global sensation as a result of the incredible success she has accomplished throughout her career in the entertainment industry. Not only has she garnered incredible recognition as a musician, but she has also achieved credits as an actress.

Raised by a single mother who had her at sixteen, the star grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas. Far from growing up with a silver spoon in her mouth, she told a story of how she once had to look in between car cushions for loose change to buy cups of ramen noodles.

However, her luck began to change at the age of seven once she scored her first role on “Barney & Friends.” The show would recruit talent locally and was filmed in Dallas.

By age twelve, the young girl became a Disney star and moved to Los Angeles with her mom and stepdad when she was thirteen. The next year, she was cast in a lead role on the popular Disney sitcom “Wizards of Wavery Place.”

From there, her stardom was on the rise, and soon, her musical talents were recognized. With her mom as her manager, the young star began to make a name for herself.

Although she had already become successful as a child star, while reflecting on her childhood, the now-grown talent expressed some sorrow. Of her mom’s sacrifices and her accomplishments at a young age, she admitted:

“…Where we’re from, you don’t really leave. So when I started gaining all this success, there was a guilt that came with it. I thought, ‘Do I deserve this?’ “

Coupled with her feelings of guilt, the talented actress also spoke about the downside of touring. She explained that her self-esteem would take a blow when having to step out on stage, citing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and feeling as though she wasn’t good enough for her fans.

The Star Underwent a Kidney Transplant and Shared Some Details about Her Health Issues

The superstar who rose to fame as a child and who struggled with anxiety and depression is none other than the incomparable Selena Gomez, 31. The “Only Murders in the Building” star has faced significant health challenges, like when she was diagnosed with lupus and had to have a kidney transplant.

In 2017, the 31-year-old took to her social media to explain to her fans why she had been laying low and keeping out of the public eye for some time. As it turned out, Gomez was informed that she would need a kidney transplant to assist her overall health, which was in decline due to her lupus.

Currently, the Rare Beauty makeup brand founder, who wants everybody to feel their best, is in a better space in her life.

Gomez posted a picture of herself lying in a hospital bed while holding hands with the woman, Francia Raisa, who donated one of her kidneys to her. The post showed the two women in hospital attire smiling at each other after the operation had occurred.

Naturally, Gomez conveyed extreme gratitude to Rasia, her family, and the incredible team of medical professionals who carried out the successful surgery. She also posted two other images: the second showed a close-up picture of her scar, and the last showed her standing in the bathroom. In addition to thanking Rasia and everyone involved, Gomez expressed:

“…I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made…-by grace through faith.”

Gomez has always been open and honest about the health issues she faces. Similar to her post about having to undergo a kidney transplant, earlier this year, she also shared some details about how her medication and health affect her body.

The “Love You Like a Love Song” singer candidly addressed how her weight fluctuates due to increased water retention by way of her medication. She spoke about the changes her body goes through because of comments made by some about her physicality.

The video was recorded for the purpose of encouraging and uplifting others who may be facing adversities that are unbeknownst to people. A part of Gomez’s message relayed:

“…I just want people to know that you’re beautiful and you’re wonderful…I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself, and my medications are important, and I believe they are what helps me…”

From Health Challenges to Self-Love: The Guinness World Record Breaker Is Happy and in a Good Place

Currently, the Rare Beauty makeup brand founder, who wants everybody to feel their best, is in a better space in her life. Gomez, who has often broken Guinness World Records, tying with Will Smith for most Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards won, is feeling fulfilled.

The “Wolves” artist, who also bagged the Guiness records for having the most Instagram followers as a female actress as well as the most likes on Facebook, said that she has learned to appreciate the challenges she’s faced in life as she gets older. Her work to provide accessible mental health services for the global youth, on which she has partnered with Sephora through her makeup brand revenue sales, has left her grateful.

As she reflected on all her accomplishments throughout her life, Gomez highlighted the aforementioned milestone as one of the most prominent. Of the pledge to raise $100 million for the cause, she said:

“I’ve done so many cool things in my life, but there’s never been a moment quite like this…”

She also made special mention of Sephora’s commitment to ensuring the mental health goal is met. Of her confidence and where she is at in her life right now, Gomez divulged:

“I know it seems easy, but I promise you it’s been years of constant back and forth in my head, and now I’m just really happy…”

Gomez finished her statement by saying that she feels honored that her happiness seems to be coming across to the broader public as well.
