“A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage. Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit.

“At this time, we kindly ask for the privacy of Jonnie’s family as they navigate through this profound loss. Their grief is immeasurable, and your thoughts, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated.

“As we remember the beautiful moments shared with Jonnie, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will forever be etched in our hearts. Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on.

Just a few months ago, Jonnie spoke to Hello! Magazine and revealed the wish he has for his three children.

He explained: “I had a tough upbringing and I’ve managed to do a lot in my life, despite that, but I don’t want them to struggle.

“I want them to have the confidence of a public school boy, but also be streetwise lads. They’re happy kids, they laugh, and are a lot of fun to be around.”

He also explained in the interview why he and his wife Jessica, 40, decided to keep his cancer diagnosis a secret from their children.

“I keep being asked, ‘Are you going to tell them?’ But tell them what? It would be horrible news that they’d have to get their heads around,” he explained.

“And it would confuse the hell out of Rex – he’s got a shocking enough day coming. Let’s bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible.”

The news of Jonnie’s passing has been met with many messages of condolences from fans, TV colleagues and loved ones, as one person commented: “So so sad my heart just stopped seeing this. Incredible man.”

Another shared: “Such sad news and so unfair. Thinking of his family.”

And a third wrote: “Sending so much love, such an amazing warrior RIEP Jonnie xXx.”

The Channel 4 star received a terminal cancer diagnosis four years ago, and leaves behind wife Jess and their children, three-year-old Rex and twins Rafa and Cormac, two.

At the time of his diagnosis, Jonnie said: “I had to go home and tell my wife, who was looking after our babies, that she was on her own pretty much.

“That was devastating. All I could do was apologise to her. I felt so responsible.”

After being diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2020, he kept the diagnosis from the public until November 2022.

When Jonnie revealed the news, he explained that the cancer had spread to his brain and that he didn’t know how long he had left.

Jonnie also shared his experiences with his followers online, which included his progress while undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

It has been suggested that putting highly concentrated oxygen into the body can increase the likelihood of chemotherapy successfully killing cancer cells, while actively healing him.

The presenter had also previously spoke about leaving his family a ‘digital legacy’ after he passed away, saying: “It’s amazing to think I too could speak to my wife and children after I pass away,

“My diagnosis has taken a lot from me but it has given me the ability to prepare.

“The only way to make sure your digital legacy is as you like it, is to take control now. I’m going to take every opportunity to do that for the people I love.”

Ever since the sad news was announced, tributes have been pouring in, including from Jasmine Harman.

Jasmine co-presented A Place In The Sun with Jonnie, and in a heartfelt post on social media, she urged others ‘not to take anything for granted’, adding that she would miss her ‘partner in crime’ and friend.

The tribute reads: “Jonnie Irwin – I will always remember the first time I heard your name. When I was doing a screen test for a new show, they said ‘we definitely want Jonnie, but we need to find another presenter’. I wondered who this mysterious Jonnie was.

“We met in Cape Town, filming the pilot. You we’re so charismatic and energetic, so confident and fun. I understood immediately why they had to have you.

“Your cheeky-chappy persona and naughty sense of humour always broke the ice and made people laugh. Everyone warmed to you and you had the incredible ability to connect with people, making them feel like they’d known you for years.

“To begin our TV careers together was a pleasure and a privilege I will be eternally grateful for.

“Almost twenty years ago, as two nervous new presenters (me perhaps more nervous than you!) little did we know we know about the adventure we were about to embark on, and the friends we would become.”

Jasmine added: “Professionally, you were well suited to life in front of the lens. But for years, you always talked about wanting to settle down and become a dad. Your wish was granted when you met Jess.

“Never were you happier than in your role as husband and Dad to the most awesome three boys – you were a legend. Life is simply not fair. We can’t reason with it; there are no answers to the question Why?

“We can, in your memory learn to cherish every hug, every conversation, every moment, for the priceless time we have. Enjoy every breath, every sunrise and sunset, never take anything for granted, because tomorrow is not promised.

“Jonnie, you’ve taught me so much in our time as work colleagues and as good friends.

“I have never admired you more than over the last few years as you’ve faced life with cancer with positivity, determination and bloody mindedness. I’ve never known anyone as strong as you. You have done yourself, your loved ones and all of us proud.

“The world is a little darker today without you, but I will always smile when I think of you. My partner in crime, my OG co-presenter – Jonnie, I will miss you.”
