Lily Gladstone, the actress, shared in a recent interview with Extra that Leonardo DiCaprio, her co-star in Killers of the Flower Moon, was very supportive when she became the first Native American to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar. DiCaprio, who was not nominated, congratulated her and expressed his pride. Gladstone mentioned how he did an amazing job in the film and made her job easier.
In a post on Instagram, DiCaprio congratulated Gladstone and the film for its nominations. The movie, directed by Martin Scorsese, is based on a true story set in 1920s Oklahoma and follows the Osage Nation’s struggles after oil is discovered on their land. Gladstone plays Mollie Burkhart, and DiCaprio plays her husband, Ernest Burkhart.
Gladstone shared that she almost gave up on her acting career before landing this breakthrough role. She was about to enroll in a community college course and even considered working at the Washington Department of Agriculture tracking “murder hornets.” However, she received a Zoom invitation from Scorsese just in time, changing the course of her career.
